About Tiburon Racing

Tiburon Racing take part in the Hyundai Coupe Cup with a 1999 Gen 1 Coupe. The Coupe Cup is a single make race series just for Gen 1 & Gen 2 Hyundai Coupes. The car took about 9 months to strip and build into a Cup car, for more details on the build process visit 'The Car' section on this site.

2013 was my novice year having only done 2 track days in late 2012 and passing the ARDS race license test in December 2012. I managed to get 1 more trackday booked before the first race at Snetterton in March 2013 but a faulty gearbox meant I could only run in the morning session. My confidence grew with each race weekend and I ended up finishing 2nd overall in class with 6 x 2nd places and 2 x 3rd places during the year.

Coupe Cup Overview

The Hyundai Coupe Cup is a budget conscious, accessible racing series for Gen 1 and Gen 2, two litre Hyundai Coupes. Run under the Track Attack Race Club umbrella, the Hyundai Coupe Cup builds on the highly successful Nippon Challenge the Toyota MR2 Series offering accessible motorsport whatever your experience level, all on a level playing field. Cost controlled racing is the key to the Hyundai Coupe Cup which is why the cars run reasonably close to road specification with safety equipment and limited tuning to both the chassis and engine.
